One day, while playing the online game Elder Tales, 30,000 players suddenly find themselves trapped in another world. There, eight-year veteran gamer Shiroe also gets left behind. Due to family circumstances, Setsuna Kai is moving to a new city where he's supposed to live by himself in an apartment. As soon as Setsuna arrives, he witnesses a mysterious rain of rocks and barely escapes being crushed by an enormous boulder. Setsuna's new home wasn't as lucky, being completely destroyed by another giant boulder. Setsuna is distraught, not knowing what to do when he's approached by a scientist named Hiromi Kaname. Dr. Kaname's equipment apparently can tell that Setsuna is a "Devil Child", and so Dr. Kaname decides to take Setsuna to his laboratory.

Mocha and her two companions are adventurers for hire. Unfortunately, their quest for wealth is hampered by their inability to finish a job. Just as they are going broke, Mocha contracts to steal a mystic dragon's head from the secluded temple of fire. When the trio finally escapes with the head, it speaks, offering a fortune for abandoning the contract and taking it to a different temple. Mocha readily agrees. They soon find themselves fighting their employer to prevent the end of the world.
